Snowed in again with only tractors passing along our lane. My concern is how long our bird food supplies will last – hopefully for quite a while yet but we are receiving no post or deliveries. Our fieldfare flock has grown to almost 100 with a handful of redwings and over 40 blackbirds – virtually all males which is interesting. Where are the ladies?? The week ahead looks much the same here but the snow does bring other wildlife to our notice including a huge dog fox which makes life interesting. Once again I am confined to my office but with a revision of one of my books in hand I have plenty to occupy me! I do find myself staring out at the snow rather a lot though planning for the spring. This week brings the winter solstice – a most significant event and a turning point in the natural calendar.
